Visitors Welcome at Apple Hill

You may be wondering if you and your family will be able to partake in the traditional trip to Apple Hill this fall – and the answer is yes.  As with everything, there are changes and accommodations, but apple season has arrived, and the Apple Hill Growers are open for business and looking forward to all the visitors this time of year brings.  Let’s take a look at what they have to offer and how they are operating.

COVID-19 Adaptations

The Apple Hill Growers farms have enlisted several changes to put guest and employee health and safety to the forefront. Despite the changes, visitors will continue to be able to enjoy customary treats such as freshly harvested fall vegetables and fruits, delicious baked goods, and local wines.  Here are a few tips to keep in mind when planning your visit:

  • Face masks are required for all visitors and employees.
  • Consider keeping your visitor group to members of your household only.
  • Social distancing should be maintained in all areas.
  • Vendors will be implementing options for safer payment.
  • Some of the wineries and farms are reservation-only for visits and U-Pick outings, so you will want to call ahead.

The Best Time to Visit Apple Hill

Apple season is in full swing and may continue into December. There are also other crops currently being harvested at the farms.

Most of the farms opened in September and got busy making pies, donuts, and apple cider.  The farms will remain open in November during the season of orange and crimson leaves.  In fact, November is a great time to take family pictures at Apple Hill, given the colorful display put on by the trees. Of course, while you are there, you will want to pick up some pies and local wine for the upcoming holidays.

The weekend after Thanksgiving, the Apple Hill tree farms will open, allowing families the opportunity to make the trek to the area for a Christmas tree.  Some farms are pick up only, while others let you cut the tree yourself.

The wineries of Apple Hill are open year-round, and many are open during the week (call first).  A wine tasting visit on a weekday will be less busy and allow for easier social distancing.  The same quality products are available during the week as on the weekends.

U-Pick Experiences

Most of the farms at Apple Hill are open throughout the fall, and some stay open into winter. Fall is the best season to pick your own pears, apples, and fresh vegetables. October is prime pumpkin season.  Eight farms are offering U-pick for Halloween and harvest gourds. The Apple Hill website has a U-Pick Guide to let you know what is available.

Other Events

Apple Hill Growers offer many special events and activities throughout the fall and winter, including wreath-making classes and opportunities to bottle your own wine. The community also offers an Apple Hill app available on Google Play or in the App Store.  The tool provides updated information on open farms, dining, events, activities, and lodging.
