State Route 12 Collision Involves Three Vehicles

A chain-reaction crash caused a minor injury on March 16 in Isleton. The collision occurred around 7:55 a.m. along westbound State Route 12 at Terminous Road. Emergency responders were called to the scene to assess injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Fault to Be Determined in Chain-Reaction Crash

The eastbound side of the highway was closed down just east of Tower Bridge due to the crash. However, all three vehicles were removed to the right-hand side and only a minor injury was reported. The accident is being investigated to determine how it happened.

How Does a Chain-Reaction Crash Occur?

Whenever a vehicle crashes into the back of a car in front, and others in the same line follow, it is called a chain-reaction crash. In many of these types of accidents, more than one motorist is negligent, which can be proved by an investigation. The following factors may contribute to this type of crash:

  • Distracted driving: Several vehicles in the same lane may be involved in an accident due to distracted driving. The driver may not notice a slowdown before it is too late if they take their eyes off the road to change the radio station, text or perform other activities.
  • Speeding: A driver can lose control of their vehicle when they speed because they need extra time to slow down if an emergency arises.
  • Tailgating: Tailgating is a major cause of a chain-reaction crash. When vehicles up ahead collide in a rear-end collision, the drivers behind cannot stop in time to prevent an accident.
  • Drunk driving: All types of accidents are caused by drunk driving. The depressant properties of alcohol cause the driver’s reflexes to slow down, their judgment to fail and their vision to deteriorate, all of which may lead to an accident.
  • Traffic congestion: Chain-reaction accidents can be caused by traffic congestion. There is little room for error when vehicles are jammed together and moving at fast highway speeds.
  • Weather conditions: A multiple-vehicle accident of this nature is often caused by adverse weather conditions such as fog, rain or snow. Maintaining a safe distance between one’s own car and those around it can help avert a chain-reaction accident.

Can I Claim Compensation Caused by a Chain-Reaction Crash?

If a negligent motorist caused your accident injury, or if another entity acted negligently, you might be able to file for compensation for the following:

  • Medical expenses: A claim can cover all of your medical expenses, including the cost of ambulance services, surgical procedures, physician bills, medical tests, and physical therapy. An injury lawyer can include future medical costs in the settlement if your trauma continues.
  • Lost wages: Your lost wages can be recovered if you were unable to work. Salary, bonuses, and additional benefits are included in this calculation. To support your claim, you can use tax records and other paperwork if you are self-employed. Your lawyer can include the loss of earnings in the settlement if the inability to work is expected to continue. The difference in wages is included if you are required to take a lower-paying job.
  • Pain and suffering: The pain and suffering you experienced can be recovered. In addition to physical suffering and pain, psychological and emotional distress also apply. You can also recover the cost of your therapy if you are treated for post-traumatic stress disorder.
