Interstate 5 Crash Near Sacramento Airport
An auto accident that caused minor injuries took place during the early morning hours of Wednesday, December 21, 2016. This minor accident turned into a fatal collision when one of the motorists involved in the fender bender exited out of their vehicle and was struck by an oncoming car.
What Happened?
Three vehicles were involved in an automobile collision shortly before 6:20 am along the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 in the vicinity of Highway 99. Two of the three involved vehicles were able to move over to the shoulder of the highway after the accident. Sadly, the third vehicle and its motorist could not escape from the second crash that occurred shortly after the first accident.
Second Crash Causes Pedestrian Accident
The driver of the third vehicle involved in the first automobile accident got out of their vehicle that was stopped at a rest in the center divide of the highway. An oncoming motorist attempted to avoid the scene of the first accident with the first two vehicles by veering left into the center median of the freeway. Unfortunately, this vehicle caused a second automobile accident resulting in a pedestrian accident by crashing into the third vehicle and its motorist.
What Types of Injuries in the Interstate 5 Crash Near Sacramento Airport?
The California Highway Patrol indicated that the driver that was struck by the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident. This driver was later identified by the Sacramento Coroner’s Office as 22-year-old Telia Roberts. The Sacramento Fire Department indicated that a second victim in the accident was transported to the hospital to be treated for critical injuries. Due to the severity of this fatal collision, this caused one of the southbound lanes for Interstate 5 to be closed down for a few hours to allow authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the crash. Investigators have not released additional details about this accident at this time.
