Accident at North Highlands Intersection Was Reportedly on Purpose

A reportedly intentional accident occurred in North Highlands on November 23 at an intersection. The accident involved two sedans at the intersection of Walerga Road and Keema Avenue around 11:42 in the morning. The incident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that one of the vehicles stopped in front of the other on purpose, which resulted in a rear-end collision.

Accident Under Investigation

The CHP is investigating to find out what caused the accident and to assign fault. At the time of this report, no information has been released on whether serious injuries resulted from the accident.

Rear-End Collisions

Generally, a rear-end collision is the fault of the driver who is in the rear position. The most common reasons for a rear-end crash include:

Causes of an Intentional Accident

Some rear-end collisions are intentional. However, once the accident has been investigated, there is a good chance that they will be discovered for exactly what they are. Some reasons a driver might instigate an intentional accident include:

  • The driver is suicidal and decides that an intentional accident might take their life.
  • The motorist who causes the rear-end accident understands that most of these are considered the fault of the driver behind. By trying to fake an injury, they can sue that driver for personal injury damages. These are referred to as staged accidents, which are used to make a false injury claim with the other driver’s insurance company.
  • An aggressive driver or someone with road rage may instigate an intentional accident without considering the consequences of their actions.

Other Types of Intentional Accidents

Rear-enders are not the only accidents that can be caused on purpose. The aim of most of them is to collect money from the innocent driver involved. Other kinds of an intentional accident include:

  • The fake sideswipe: In this type of intentional accident, a vehicle driver notices that another car has drifted into their lane. Instead of moving out of the way, they move closer to sideswipe the vehicle and claim it was the other driver’s fault.
  • The cash shakedown: In these accidents, the driver looks for another vehicle that is of good quality, expensive, and probably insured, then they stop suddenly in front of them, causing an accident. After exchanging insurance information, they will claim exaggerated costs such as a rental car and injuries.
  • The fake merge: On roads with parallel lanes, when a driver signals that they are changing lanes, the scam artist will give them the nod to go and then speed up to crash into them. By claiming injuries and property damage, the innocent driver ends up bearing the financial cost.
