Injury Accident Involving Tow Truck Driver Occurs in Sacramento

Hit-and-Run Driver Strikes and Injures Tow Truck Driver on Hillsdale Boulevard

An injury accident involving a hit-and-run driver happened in Sacramento on March 3 involving a tow truck operator. The accident was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) at around 12:42 in the afternoon along Hillsdale Boulevard between Brett and Diablo drives. According to the police report, the tow truck driver was struck by a vehicle, which then left the scene.

Hit-and-Run Driver Sought in Injury Accident

Sac Fire first responders were called to the Foothill Farms area of Sacramento to assess the tow truck driver’s injuries. The accident is under investigation by the CHP to determine how it happened and to locate the driver involved in the injury accident.

Driving a Tow Truck Can Be a Dangerous Job

Tow truck drivers are on the road at all hours, helping stranded motorists with broken-down vehicles and assisting at accident scenes. However, it is a difficult, stressful job that sometimes puts the driver’s life in danger. In California, the move-over law states that motorists have to move over or slow down when approaching vehicles with flashing yellow lights.

This includes law enforcement, emergency, and Caltrans vehicles, as well as tow trucks. Stiff fines and points on a driver’s record can result if drivers do not obey. Some of the reasons accidents occur with tow trucks include:

  • Distracted drivers who are talking on a phone, texting, changing a radio station, and other activities can cause an injury accident. Focusing on the lights of the tow truck, the crash site, or a broken-down vehicle can also cause the motorist to accidentally steer toward it, injuring a tow truck driver or others.
  • Drinking and driving can lead to an injury accident. Those who are intoxicated or have been using drugs have problems focusing, slowed reflexes, and poor judgment.
  • Speeding can lead to a tow truck driver injury accident. A broken-down vehicle or accident isn’t always on the side of the road. A driver who is speeding may not be able to stop in time to prevent a collision.

Hit-and-Run Drivers

Drivers who flee the scene of an accident are more common as they attempt to avoid responsibility for their actions. At my law firm, we have been able to locate a high number of hit-and-run drivers by investigating and collecting evidence. These investigations cannot only locate the driver in many cases but help support our client’s claim for compensation

When the Fleeing Driver Isn’t Found

There is another option for claiming compensation following a hit-and-run injury accident. This is through a driver’s uninsured/underinsured insurance policy. This policy is in addition to their regular insurance policy, and it is offered to all California drivers.

It not only covers those in the automobile but provides coverage if they are injured as pedestrians while riding a bicycle and in other situations. Many Californians opt to take this add-on policy because of the high number of drivers in the state who have no insurance.

If the injured party does not carry this add-on policy, there is another option. If another member of the household has an uninsured/underinsured policy, that can be used to pay for the accident injuries. Using the policy does not cause the rates to rise in the future.
