Citrus Heights Fleeing Driver Accident Occurs on I-80

One person suffered injuries in a Citrus Heights fleeing driver accident on January 12 along westbound Interstate 80. The collision occurred just east of the Greenback Lane off-ramp around 1:41 p.m. when officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) discovered two vehicles in the center divider. One of the vehicles was a pickup. The other was a gray BMW sedan.

Identifying the At-Fault Party

In some cases, police cannot locate the perpetrators of hit-and-run accidents. For clients who have suffered severe injuries, this can be disconcerting as they wonder how they will be able to cover their medical expenses and lost wages. We cooperate with authorities and send our investigators to the accident site to gather information quickly. Our investigators use the following techniques, as well as others, to locate the missing motorist in the Citrus Heights fleeing driver accident:

  • When our investigators arrive at the accident scene, they take photos and collect evidence such as tire track marks, paint chips and smears, and plastic and metal pieces. Because these items are specific to auto manufacturers, this evidence can help identify the model and make of the vehicle.
  • The area around the accident is scoured for surveillance videos that might have captured the collision as it occurred. These can include cameras at traffic lights, businesses, or nearby homes.
  • The accident report issued by the responding police is checked for inaccuracies. This is important because a mistake might affect the injured person’s ability to file a claim to recover compensation. If a report error is found in the Citrus Heights fleeing driver accident, the attorney can attach a statement with proof that makes the correction.
  • Accident reconstruction is performed, which indicates how the vehicles were positioned before, during, and after the collision. This evidence is commonly accepted by juries and insurance companies as proof of fault.

When the driver is found, they can be held financially liable for the injuries they caused. If the at-fault party cannot be located, we also assist our clients in finding alternative methods of paying their medical bills.

Payment of Medical Bills With Uninsured/Underinsured Insurance

Medical bills can be reimbursed by injured parties’ uninsured/underinsured insurance policies. Every California driver who insures their vehicle can add this addendum to their own policy. Some drivers do not have it because it is not mandatory. It is possible, however, to use this insurance for their accident if anyone in their family carries it.
