Details on the Motorcycle Accident Resulting in Injuries Reported on SR-165

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), authorities received reports of a car vs. motorcycle accident near the Hilmar area shortly before 2:40 p.m. A 1999 Honda Accord was traveling northbound on Highway 165 when the vehicle allegedly slowed down to make a left-hand turn. While doing so, the vehicle was reportedly struck by a 2002 Kawasaki ZX600 ridden by a 30-year-old man from Hilmar.

The motorcyclist allegedly continued another 80 feet after the incident until his motorcycle crashed into a cable box and propelled him off his bike. The motorcycle rider suffered injuries described as possible internal trauma and lacerations to the head, CHP traffic officers reported. He was transported to a Modesto area hospital for immediate treatment of serious injuries. The Honda driver, a 76-year-old Hilmar woman, received treatment at a local hospital as a precautionary measure. Additional information on the motorcycle accident in Merced County, including an update regarding the conditions of injured parties, was not immediately available.

Things to Know About Motorcycle Accidents and Insurance Claims

When a motorcyclist has been injured in a crash with a motor vehicle, they may have questions on how their medical bills will be covered and how they will be able to make ends meet all while going through the road to recovery. If faced with such a situation, it is essential to understand that your trust should not be placed in the goodwill of an insurance carrier as they may have a negative perception of motorcyclists. This may ultimately impact the overall value of a bodily injury claim for economic and non-economic damages. This is one of the many defense tactics that insurers may utilize to get out of paying fair compensation on a personal injury case to protect their bottom line.

With California being a comparative fault state, it is essential to take steps that can help demonstrate that you are a responsible and safe motorcyclist. This may make all the difference in overcoming motorcycle bias when bringing a personal injury claim for financial compensation. Maintaining a safe driving record and wearing a DOT-approved helmet may go a long way in combatting the assumptions from insurance companies and defense counsel that you are a dangerous rider. Statements by eyewitnesses to the incident and traffic collision reports by officials may be valuable.

One of the most crucial steps to take as a motorcyclist injured in a crash with a motor vehicle is to retain legal counsel to represent you and protect your interests. The accident attorney you hire to handle your case will work to gather clear and compelling evidence that may be utilized to counter the biases of insurers and defense counsel. That is because an experienced personal injury lawyer knows all too well that insurance companies will do anything to get out of paying a claimant for the injuries and losses they have suffered because of the negligence of their insured. Hiring the best attorney in your area to represent you is essential to the outcome of your case.
