What Are Moderate Injuries in a Head-On Crash?

Moderate injuries in a head-on crash or other type of collision are those that are not life-threatening and are temporary. However, it often causes a loss of consciousness and injury to a bodily member or organ and requires anesthesia to repair the trauma, such as a dislocation or bone fracture

Causes of a Head-On Crash

A head-on crash is one of the most dangerous types of accidents because the vehicles’ speeds combine upon impact. If both vehicles are going at highway speeds such as 65 mph, their combined speed upon impact would be 130 mph. Serious injuries and fatalities are common in a head-on crash. Some of the ways they occur include:

  • Improper passing: Passing on a two-lane highway while on a hill or the view ahead is obstructed is a common cause of a head-on crash.
  • Drunk driving: Drunk drivers have trouble staying in their own lane, and crossing into an opposing one is a common cause of a head-on accident. In addition, because the driver is impaired, they often enter highway exit ramps going in the wrong direction, which places them in the fast lane in front of oncoming traffic.
  • Distracted driving: Distracted drivers are a leading cause of all types of accidents. By looking at a screen while texting or sending a message, the driver doesn’t realize how far the vehicle is traveling in the meantime.
  • Speeding: Speeding around a curve on a highway can cause the driver to cross over the line, resulting in a head-on crash.
  • Fatigued driving: A driver who is too tired to concentrate on the task at hand can end up dozing off and becoming involved in a frontal collision with another motorist.
