What You Should Know About Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident Cases

Drivers have the responsibility of yielding the right-of-way to pedestrians. However, not all motorists follow this duty, and car vs. pedestrian accidents often occur as a result. When faced with such a situation, an injured pedestrian may take action against the at-fault party by bringing a personal injury claim against them and their insurance company. If the other party has little to no liability coverage, the pedestrian may be under the impression that they may have no recourse in their situation. Fortunately, if they carry uninsured/underinsured motorist protection (UM/UIM) or live with a family member who has this coverage, they may bring a claim under that plan. What most people do not know about UM coverage is that it is beneficial in the aspect that it may extend coverage to you as a party injured in a hit-and-run accident, whether that be as a driver, passenger, cyclist, or pedestrian.

Pedestrian accidents in Merced require a personal injury lawyer who has years of experience obtaining favorable case results and understands California laws. When legal counsel is retained, an injured pedestrian may rest assured knowing that their case will be in good hands as they recover and work to get their life back on track. Remember that any initial settlement offer from the insurer will always be in favor of the insurance company, meaning that it will be far less than what you deserve.
