Pedestrian Hospitalized Following Fresno Hit-and-Run Accident

I’m Ed Smith, a Fresno car accident lawyer. A pedestrian was walking in central Fresno during the nighttime hours of Saturday, March 3, 2018. The pedestrian was struck by an oncoming vehicle that left the area following the crash. Unfortunately, the man suffered serious injuries as a result of the driver’s senseless decision.

We would like to send our healing thoughts for a swift and full recovery to the injured pedestrian affected by this accident.

What Happened?

A 32-year-old man was walking northbound across Olive Avenue at Safford Street at approximately 9:40 pm. A pickup truck was traveling westbound along Olive Avenue and collided with the man. The vehicle reportedly fled the scene following the crash, leaving the victim behind to suffer from his injuries.

Nature of Injuries

Emergency crews were immediately dispatched to the area to render immediate aid. Upon arrival, crews evaluated the injured man and transported him to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. An update on his condition has not yet been released by authorities.

Accident Investigation

The cause of the pedestrian accident is not yet known due to an ongoing investigation. The suspect remains at large, however, authorities have released a photo of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. The vehicle has been described as a white 2000 to 2004 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck with possible left front-end damage as well as a missing driver’s side mirror.

How to Handle a Hit-and-Run Accident

When a party is involved in a hit-and-run accident, they must carefully document the incident to the appropriate law enforcement agency and their automobile insurance company. The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) must also be notified through a “Traffic Accident Report SR 1” if an accident resulted in property damage of $1,000 or more, or reported injuries or death. Although hit-and-runs are unpredictable, it is important to document as much information as possible such as:

  • Date, Time and Location of the Accident
  • License Plate Number
  • Make, Model and Color of the Other Vehicle
  • Description of Damage Sustained by the Other Vehicle
  • Images of the Damage to Your Vehicle

When a party suffers losses in a car, bicycle or pedestrian accident, they may have recourse through their own automobile insurance if they are a policyholder of Uninsured/Under-insured Motorist Protection (UM). Filing a UM claim can be extremely stressful without the assistance of an experienced Fresno personal injury lawyer. An experienced attorney can secure your rights and obtain fair compensation for all incurred losses.
