Details on the Tracy Hit and Run Accident

CHP traffic officials said that the initial incident involved a white Toyota Rav4 SUV and an unknown sedan. A second traffic collision was reported involving a Toyota Corolla and Toyota Camry.

Officials reported injuries in the car accident in Tracy. However, the sequence of events leading up to both crashes and the number of injured parties was not immediately disclosed by authorities.

Importance of Having a Police Report for a Hit and Run Accident

It is essential to contact local law enforcement to file a police report if the other party leaves the scene of the motor vehicle collision. This may serve as a form of evidence necessary in obtaining compensation for injuries and losses incurred. Some of the reasons why you should file a traffic incident report include:

  • Authorities may be able to find the suspect driver, particularly if a witness to the crash obtained the make, model, and license plate number of the vehicle
  • The traffic incident report can help provide a record of the accident, where it occurred, cause, and that the other party fled the scene
  • If the at-fault party is tracked down, you will need a copy of the police report to bring a claim with their insurer
  • If the other driver cannot be located, you will need a traffic incident report to file a claim with your insurance company for property damage

In situations where officials cannot identify the suspect driver, it is best to retain a personal injury lawyer for your case. An attorney with the experience and resources will work with private investigators to track down the negligent party to hold them financially accountable for your injuries and damages incurred. Does Insurance Cover Hit and Runs?

There are several options for recovering compensation through first-party insurance claims for a hit and run accident. If there is collision coverage for the affected vehicle, a claim may be filed for recovery of vehicle repairs or replacement. Another potential source of recovery is medical payments coverage (MedPay) that may pay for medical expenses up to the limits of the policy.

If uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage (UM and UIM) was purchased under the policy, a claim may be filed for bodily injury if the hit and run driver cannot be located or is later found but does not carry liability insurance. UIM coverage may also come into play if it is found that the at-fault party has bodily injury liability coverage, but their policy is not sufficient to fully compensate injured parties.

It is best to contact an attorney in the unfortunate instance that the driver responsible for a hit and run accident is not located. By retaining a lawyer immediately after a crash, an attorney can work with your insurance company on your behalf for compensation through an uninsured motorist claim. Keep in mind that even though the case will be handled through your insurer, that does not necessarily mean they will offer fair compensation for your injuries and damages.
