A hit-and-run crash in North Sacramento leaves pedestrian dead.  Authorities are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision that claimed the life of a pedestrian Saturday night, March 7, 2026, in North Sacramento.

Officers with the Sacramento Police Department responded shortly after 8:00 p.m. to the intersection of Norwood Avenue and Jessie Avenue, just north of Interstate 80, following reports of a serious crash involving a pedestrian.

Details of the Collision

When officers arrived, they discovered a man lying in the roadway. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the pedestrian was struck during a two-vehicle collision. One of the involved vehicles remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities, while the second driver fled before officers arrived.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

Ongoing Investigation

The Major Collision Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Investigators with the Sacramento Police Department are leading the investigation. Officers canvassed the surrounding neighborhood and interviewed witnesses as they work to identify the driver who fled.
