Head-On Collision in Santa Barbara

I’m Ed Smith, a Santa Barbara car accident lawyer. A Santa Barbara head-on collision on Thursday, May 25, caused injuries to two drivers. The accident is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol as to the reasons for the crash, and no further word is available on the condition of those who were injured.

I want to extend my sympathy to those involved in the accident, along with my hope that they recover soon and completely.

What Happened

The crash occurred along California State Route 154 at around 7:30 in the morning, near the area of Windy Gap, and was reported by the CHP, when a Honda and SUV collided. The woman in the Honda, who was described as in her 20s, had to be extricated from her vehicle by members of the fire department for the county of Santa Barbara.

Accident Injuries Suffered From the Crash

The woman reportedly suffered injuries that were major and was transported by ambulance to a hospital in the city for treatment. The male SUV driver, who was also young, suffered injuries that were minor and was also transported to a hospital. The highway was closed while an investigation of the accident was conducted.

Head-On Crashes Are Common

Common types of motor vehicle accidents include head-on crashes, intersection accidents, collisions that are low impact and crashes from the rear. However, any type of car accident can cause serious injuries. In personal injury, the one thing they have in common is that they were caused by another driver’s negligence. By calling an experienced car accident attorney for Santa Barbara, an injured victim can recover damages caused by a crash. While the injured person is recovering from the accident, it gives them the peace of mind that their medical and other expenses will be covered.

Number of Crashes in Santa Barbara and Surrounding County

The year 2014 saw 677 crashes in Santa Barbara itself that resulted in deaths or injuries, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. Of the total, 117 involved the consumption of alcohol and 133 were speed related. Across the county, there were 1,510 reported injuries and deaths that year. Alcohol consumption was determined to be a factor in 355 of those collisions. In 546, speed was a factor.
