Major Injury Reported in Two-Vehicle Accident on Duggans Road

A motor vehicle crash in Grass Valley on April 30 caused major injuries to at least one person. The accident happened along Duggans Road between Wolf Meadows Drive and Kasza Way shortly after 11:00 a.m. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the incident involved a pickup truck and SUV, one of which struck and knocked down a telephone pole.

Two-Vehicle Major Injury Crash Blocks Entire Roadway

The vehicles, along with the phone pole and lines completely blocked the roadway. It took about 45 minutes for a repair crew to arrive. Additional information about injuries in the collision was not provided. An investigation is underway by authorities to find out how the accident occurred.

Accidents on Rural Roads

Two-lane roads are common sites of serious collisions for a number of reasons and are often more dangerous than highways. For example, even though traffic is lighter, the number of accidents and fatalities that occur along these roads is much higher than in urban areas.

  • Drivers are more apt to speed on a rural road due to the lack of traffic and police presence.
  • Motorists on rural roads are less likely to wear seat belts, which can cause serious injuries if a motor vehicle crash occurs.
  • Animals are more likely to be in the roadway or jump out in front of a vehicle.
  • Drunk drivers are a common problem on rural roads and can cause a motor vehicle crash.
  • Lighting is often poor in rural areas, which can make it more difficult for drivers to see other motorists or obstructions in the roadway.
  • Foliage and trees that obscure the view around curves can lead to an accident.
  • Improper passing can cause a vehicle crash if the way ahead isn’t clear or the driver is on a hill.
  • Slow-moving farm vehicles can cause an accident when a driver comes over a hill and suddenly encounters one.

Contacting a Lawyer After an Injury Accident

An auto accident attorney can assist you if you have been injured in a vehicle crash on a rural road. The issues associated with rural roadways pose risks for several reasons, which means more than one party may be negligent and held responsible for your accident injury. A drunk or distracted driver, poorly maintained road, weakened guardrails, and other problems may be to blame for an accident, and fault must be established to place a claim to recover compensation.

How Our Investigators Gather Evidence

Our investigators go to the accident site to take photos of the vehicles and surrounding area to present as evidence to support your claim. Paint marks and metal pieces from the vehicles can help establish where your vehicle was struck and identify the car/truck that did it. In addition, investigators examine the accident report filed by the police to determine its accuracy because mistakes can prevent a client from filing a claim to recover damages.

Accident reconstruction is performed, which indicates the vehicles’ positioning before the collision occurred, how it happened, and where they ended up. The roadway and surrounding area are examined to see if the lack of adequate roadway maintenance and safety measures contributed to or caused the vehicle crash.
