Grass Valley Double Fatality Accident
On Thursday, January 12, 2017, at approximately 8:20 a.m., a head-on collision was reported to California Highway Patrol (CHP).
What Happened?
Two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision on Highway 49 in the vicinity of Alta Sierra Drive near Grass Valley. CHP reports indicate that a gray Honda was traveling southbound on Highway 49 and for unknown reasons crossed over into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a silver Jeep. The cause of the collision is being investigated by the CHP. No word yet if distracted driving contributed to this crash.
Fatalities Reported
Solo male drivers occupied the silver Jeep and gray Honda CRV at the time of the collision. When CHP and Cal Fire arrived on scene they discovered that both parties have passed away as a result of their injuries.
Accident Debris Litters Roadway
Authorities reported that a driver in a white Volkswagen was traveling southbound shortly after the crash and sustained damages to their vehicle due to accident debris that was on the roadway.
Road Closures
Highway 49 in Grass Valley was shut down in both directions following this tragic accident. Officials urged motorists to avoid the area and find an alternate route. The highway was closed for approximately 2 hours while crews worked to clear the scene. The highway was reopened to traffic shortly after 10:40 a.m.
