Gas Stove Explosion Burns Sacramento Man

A man, who is recovering in intensive care, suffered burns over a third of his body when his gas stove exploded recently. The incident occurred in a newly purchased house on Garnet Peak Way. According to the man’s fiance, Joanna Fraire, Rolando Muñoz was making breakfast bacon when the explosion happened. She said she saw the flames in their kitchen and rushed in to check on Muñoz. She took Muñoz to the hospital where staff bandaged his burns and sent him home to recuperate. Not long after arriving home, Muñoz complained he did not feel well, and Fraire took him to UC Davis Medical Center. Muñoz was placed in the intensive care burn unit for further treatment.

Further Details of the Accident

The second-degree burns covered 36 percent of Muñoz’s body. The areas that were injured include the left side of his face, stomach, neck, back, ears, and arms. While fire officials are still investigating why the fire/explosion occurred, Fraire is grateful that her fiance is still alive. She is certain that if his position near the stove were even slightly different, the situation would have been much worse. She said that he is expected to recover in four to six months and will require continuing care. To help with Muñoz’s medical and rehabilitative care, the family has set us a GoFundMe account.

What a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Do

When accidents like this happen, the injured party and their family suffer financial worries. They are concerned that they will be unable to pay for burn care, rehabilitative treatment, and other bills. This adds even more stress to an already stressful time. An injury lawyer is able to help by determining why the accident happened. In an explosion, there are many things that may have contributed to it. Chief among them is a faulty gas hookup, a flaw that causes the flame to go out or a defect in the stove itself. Our investigative team will work to find out what went wrong by searching the site of the fire and checking on defects. We will review fire department conclusions and speak to representatives of the gas company. Sometimes, a particular model stove has multiple consumer complaints against it but has not been recalled. Once this data is obtained, we are able to present it to the insurance company to recover expenses as well as compensation for pain and suffering. If the insurer reneges on their duty, we can present the case to a civil court.

Defective Gas Stoves

Defects in the manufacturing and design of a gas stove can cause it to accumulate too many fumes and either cause an explosion, fire, or overabundance of carbon monoxide. All of these hazards can cause life-threatening injuries. Although some manufacturers know about the defects, they do not initiate a recall. Reports of injuries can be found in a variety of consumer organizations. For example, in 2016, there was a worldwide recall of 170,000 gas stoves that exploded due to a faulty excess release of gas.

What Can Be Recovered?

Injuries from exploding gas stoves often result in burns. Extensive medical care is required to treat burn injuries, including surgery in some cases. In addition to being unable to work, long periods of rehabilitation are often needed. Such treatment can place a significant financial hardship on the injured party and their family. By filing a personal injury claim, all medical expenses and lost wages can be recovered.
