Wasp Attack in Galt

On Wednesday, August 10, 2016, an air conditioning technician employed by Comfort Air was busy working on air conditioning vents atop Liberty Ranch High School’s Agricultural Building in Galt. Without warning, he was stung continuously by a swarm of wasps. The technician quickly made his way down from the roof and looked for help. He found an instructor and told him he felt dizzy. The instructor contacted the school’s office who alerted emergency personnel.

Quick Action Required Due to Galt Wasp Attack

The attendance secretary called 9-1-1. Then she alerted a district health assistant who was off campus taking her lunch break. That employee decided to return to the campus to see if she could be of service. Turns out, the district health assistant was trained as an EMT. She arrived back at the campus with her medical bag in hand and prepared to save a life. She was equipped with sting kits, ice packs, and an EpiPen. She soon discovered the technician was having difficulty breathing as he lay across a couple chairs. She also noticed that his fingers were turning blue. The district health assistant jumped into action and administered the EpiPen contents into the technician. She then placed a blood pressure cuff onto his arm to take his vital signs.

Pulse and Breathing Stopped

In a frightening realization, she determined his pulse and breathing stopped. The district health assistant began administering CPR and, after about 85 chest compressions, his pulse and breathing resumed. She continued to perform a sternum rub while engaging in conversation with him to keep him alert and conscious until the fire department and ambulance arrived.

School District Proud of Their Employee

School district officials said they are thankful and very appreciative for their district health assistant’s timely and excellent response to the emergency situation.

After the life-threatening wasp attack, Liberty Ranch High School was fully attended to throughout the campus with wasp abatement treatments.

Victim Recovered and Thanked Employee Who Saved His Life

The victim has recovered and went back to the school to thank the employee who saved his life.

With so much bad news, in the news, it is refreshing to learn of the heroic and life-saving actions of people in our community.

Our hats are off to Jeanay Anthes, the district health assistant at Liberty Ranch High School who saved the life of a Galt wasp attack victim.

Being CPR Certified Saved Galt Wasp Attack Victim’s Life
