Audi Fuel Pump Flange Recall

Audi, the trending German automaker, has issued a recall for some of their Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs). The reason for the recall originates from a potential fuel leak, increasing the risk of a fire.

Information about the Recall

The Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) has issued a recall for some of its luxury SUV vehicles. The recall affects approximately 240,487 SUVs on the road today. The fuel pump flange of these vehicles may crack, creating a fuel leak. If a fuel leak is in the vicinity of an ignition source, the defect may increase the risk of a fire.

What is a Fuel Pump Flange?

A fuel pump flange is a protective collar or rim that is used to keep the pump in its place, especially when the vehicle is traveling along bumpy terrains. The flange prevents fuel from leaking out by sealing off fuel pump connections. The position and purpose of the flange expose the part to fluid and excessive heat produced by the engine. The flange will eventually wear out and crack, leading to a fuel leak that may lead to a fire. It is best to always have your vehicle inspected by a trusted mechanic for a damaged fuel pump flange.

Which Vehicles?

The National Highway Traffic Highway Administration (NHTSA) has listed the following vehicles that are affected by the recall:

  • 2013 to 2017: Audi Q5
  • 2013 to 2017: Audi Q7

Recall Remedy

Audi will notify owners of the affected vehicles in the recall. Dealers will inspect fuel pump flanges for any cracks. A protective film will be applied on flanges without cracks and flanges with cracks will be replaced at no charge. Vehicle owners may contact the Audi customer service line at (800) 253-2834 for more information.

Reporting Your Vehicle to NHTSA

Vehicle recalls are issued due to design defects that may appose danger to consumers. According to ConsumerReports.org, 62 million vehicles in the United States were recalled. This accounts to be about one in four cars on the roadway today.

The government and automakers rely on consumer complaints to investigate safety concerns and provide a remedy. If you or a loved one has experienced issues with your vehicle, you may report it to the NHTSA’s safety hotline at SaferCar.gov. Recalls, from a positive perspective, result in better practices and safer vehicles.
