Fresno Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident

I’m Ed Smith, a Fresno motorcycle accident attorney. A Fresno man was killed in a motorcycle accident on Saturday in the town of Madera.

Location of the Crash

According to a press release from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a motorcycle rider was heading into an intersection when he was hit by a car in the town of Madera. The rider, 35 and from Fresno, was on a Kawasaki motorcycle. The motorcycle accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 41 and Avenue 15.

The Crash Details

The release noted that the motorcycle rider stopped at the stop sign at Avenue 15. He then proceeded into the intersection as a 78-year-old woman from Coarsegold entered the intersection going southbound on Highway 41, broadsiding the motorcycle. The incident occurred not long after 5pm on Saturday, November 12. Officers investigating the crash said that the motorcycle failed to yield to the woman in the Lexus after stopping at the stop sign. This information most likely came from the woman in the Lexus. The motorcyclist did not have an opportunity to give his side of the story. It is important to contact a Fresno motorcycle accident attorney who can conduct an independent evaluation of the events leading up to the crash. A good attorney will look for witnesses, check for video from nearby businesses or homes and utilize other investigative techniques to pinpoint true cause for a crash. This can help ease the suffering of the loved ones dealing with the tragic loss of life. If the other driver was at fault, a wrongful death claim can be pursued by certain members of the family. Injuries from the Accident

The motorcyclist, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead by first responders at the scene of the crash from the traumatic injuries suffered. The female driver of the Lexus did not suffer any injuries. The CHP said that they don’t believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident.

Dangers of Intersections for Motorcyclists

Motorcyclists face danger no matter where they ride in California, especially in the highly populated Fresno area. The danger increases when motorcyclists navigate intersections. Dangerous intersections are common spots for motorcycle accidents that end in the most tragic of circumstances. Below are some safety tips for motorcyclists navigating intersections in the Fresno and northern California areas.

Cover the Brakes

One of the most important life-saving tips motorcyclists should follow is to cover the brakes when navigating an intersection. A great way to do this is by hovering two of your fingers over each brake lever on the handlebars. This gives you easier access to the brakes and cuts down on the time it will take for you to apply the brakes in an emergency.

Be a Proactive Rider

You need to be a proactive rider when intersections are involved in your commute. Do not wait until you enter the intersection to come up with a plan to avoid an emergency. The best-laid plans happen as you approach the intersection, giving yourself plenty of time to prepare for what might happen at an intersection.

Do Not Hide

Everything you read about motorcycles states that riders should make themselves as visible as possible. Many will get nervous at an intersection and try to hide behind another vehicle. This can be deadly. Do not hide at an intersection. Make yourself as visible as possible so all vehicles navigating the intersection see you.

Wear Bright Gear

You should always wear bright gear when riding your motorcycle. This is vital to your safety when traveling a route that has busy intersections. Bright gear will help you be seen by other motorists. Aside from the gear being bright, it should also be reflective.
