Four Vehicles Involved in Serious Eureka Crash

On Tuesday, December 22, 2020, one person was left with serious injuries following a Eureka crash. The Eureka Police Department (EPD) reported that the accident involved a total of four vehicles and happened in the late evening. Updates on the condition of the injured party have not been provided, and this accident remains under EPD investigation.

Crash Details

The crash happened at around 6:00 p.m. at the intersection of Albee and Del Norte Streets. A work van and a sedan reportedly collided at the two-way stop. Following the initial collision, the van traveled down Del Norte a short distance before crashing into the rear-end of a parked vehicle.

Photos of the accident show major damage to the passenger side of a black sedan as well as to the front end of the van and rear-end of the parked vehicle. Exactly how the fourth vehicle was involved in the accident hasn’t been reported.

Response

Emergency response personnel were sent to the crash scene directly after EPD received notification regarding the incident. When they reached the scene, Humboldt Bay Fire staff determined that one person had sustained serious trauma and had them placed on an ambulance and driven to a nearby hospital. A second injured individual reportedly refused medical attention at the scene.

Investigation

While EPD continues to look into possible factors involved in this traumatic car crash, officers haven’t reported any likely causes. Incidents like this one often occur because of more than one cause, and many common accident causes are not things that drivers have the ability to control. Such non-driver vehicle accident factors can include things like issues with defective car parts like steering systems, brakes, or tires; as well as dangerously broken roadway pavement.

Another Recent Eureka Crash

This accident occurred just after another collision in Eureka. The other crash happened at around 5:50 p.m. on Broadway Street near the local Applebee’s. According to reports, the collision involved a white luxury sedan as well as a white work van. Video of the incident shows the sedan colliding with the rear-end of the van, causing significant damage to both vehicles. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports, an ambulance was called to the scene of the accident. However, details about the severity of injuries and the number of injured individuals were not made available.
