Four Injured in Redding Highway Crash

I’m Ed Smith, a Redding personal injury lawyer. Four individuals were left with injuries following an auto accident that occurred on a Highway near Redding on Thursday, March 15, 2018.

Accident Details

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) publicly reported that the collision took place on Highway 299 at the intersection of East Stillwater Way. Officers reported that their preliminary investigations suggest that a red truck had been driving west on Highway 299 at approximately 50 miles per hour. It was at this time that another vehicle, identified as a white pickup truck with a black stripe on its side, pulled in front of the red truck. The two vehicles subsequently collided. Pictures taken at the accident site show major damages to the front ends of both the white and red pickup trucks.

Injuries and Response

CHP dispatch received a phone call indicating that an accident had seriously injured multiple individuals and sent responders to the accident sight right away. Emergency response officials arriving at the accident scene discovered all of the individuals in both vehicles had sustained moderate injuries during the collision.

The four individuals were immediately transported by medical ambulance to nearby hospitals in order to receive medical care.

Accident Factors

Investigators are currently working to determine this accident’s causal factors. CHP has not made any indication as to whether or not drugs and/or alcohol may have been involved in the crash

Accident photos show that the collision occurred under rainy road conditions, suggesting that reduced visibility due to rain and reduced ability to maneuver due to slick roads may both have been factors. Other accident details that remain under investigation include common factors such as speeding, driving while fatigued or distracted, faulty auto parts such as steering and brake systems, roadway defects, and more.

Driving in the Rain

As rain continues to fall in Northern California, residents of Redding and surrounding areas should remain aware that driving in inclement weather comes with significant risk factors. Reduced tire traction and visibility, and hydroplaning are all issues that have been the cause of multiple serious area accidents over recent months, but drivers can practice some safe driving habits in order to decrease their chances of being involved in a rainy road related accident.

Perhaps the most important thing for drivers to do on rainy roadways is slow down. Driving at a lower rate of speed increases the amount of time you have to notice and react to a dangerous roadway condition. Additionally, driving more slowly gives motorists more control over their vehicles

Drivers should also ensure that their vehicles are prepared to take on rainy conditions by checking that their windshield wipers are in working order, that their tires are not worn-down, and that their headlights haven’t become dim. All of these quick check-ups can potentially mean avoiding a serious collision.
