A car accident in Brentwood on Tuesday, September 24, left four people injured in addition to a temporary road closure at the intersection of Balfour Road and American Avenue. It was approximately 12:15 p.m. when the accident occurred.

According to the preliminary investigation, a vehicle on Balfour Road was trying to make an illegal left-hand turn towards the back of Heritage High School. The area had a sign placed in front that said: “Do Not Enter.” While the vehicle was stopped, a pickup truck struck the car from behind. Two of the four injured people were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, while the other two people were checked and released at the scene. Initially, a medical helicopter was called to the scene but was later canceled by East Contra Costa Fire Protection District.

It is estimated that 95 percent of car crashes are the result of negligent driving behavior. If you want to place a claim for compensation of any damages/injuries that you may have sustained in an accident, negligence must be proven. Below are some instances of neglect that can contribute to an auto accident:

  • Distracted driving behaviors such as talking on the phone, sending or reading emails, or texting while driving has lead to many accidents in the U.S.
  • Driving under conditions of fatigue can impair your ability to drive, even if you don’t actually fall asleep behind the wheel.
  • Driving under the influence is reckless behavior that commonly results in accident fatalities. Additionally, driving while being influenced by prescription medication is can also contribute to auto accidents.
