Four people were injured and hospitalized after a car crash in Discovery Bay on the afternoon of Sunday, August 9, 2020. The traffic accident occurred around 1:00 p.m. on Highway 4 at Discovery Bay Boulevard. Officials said that the injury incident was a broadside collision involving a Ford Mustang and a blue truck. The auto accident prompted two medical helicopters and three AMR ambulances. According to the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District, two parties were taken by ground ambulance, and two others were transported by medical helicopter to local hospitals for treatment. All four patients were reported to have suffered a head injury, one of which also complained of neck pain. The cause of the T-bone collision is unknown as an investigation is underway by the Contra Costa California Highway Patrol (CHP).

What You Should Do After Being Injured in a Discovery Bay Car Crash

Being injured in a motor vehicle collision is stressful enough, and knowing what to do to protect your legal rights is essential. Our law firm has compiled a list of steps you should take after a car accident in Brentwood to protect your legal right to full and fair financial compensation of your injuries and damages:

  • Seek Medical Treatment Immediately: Some serious injuries may have delayed symptoms, such as a traumatic brain injury (TBI) or spinal cord injury. Let your primary provider know that you were involved in a motor vehicle collision so you can receive the most suitable treatment plan for your concerns and needs. Be sure to keep up with follow-up visits and avoid gaps in treatment. Insurance claims adjusters may use this as a weak spot in your case and claim that you are not as injured as you say you are.
  • Gather Evidence: If you were not taken from the scene of the car accident in an ambulance, take pictures of the damage to your car and the other party’s vehicle, if possible. Photos are essential forms of evidence in proving how an auto crash happened. If your vehicle was towed from the crash site and is in possession at a salvage yard, be sure to pick it up as soon as possible to avoid additional daily storage fees. When your vehicle is back in your possession and awaiting the estimate of a property damage insurance adjuster, take pictures of it using your cell phone or camera, if you were unable to at the scene of the collision. If you believe a defect in your vehicle exacerbated your injuries, such as a defective airbag or insufficient crush resistance in a crash, have your car inspected by an experienced Brentwood personal injury attorney first before signing off a release to the insurer.
  • Locate Any Witnesses to the Car Crash: One of the top sources of evidence is having witnesses to the traffic collision. If there are any, write down their names and contact information. If there are no witnesses, there is no need to worry. Your Brentwood auto accident attorney will look at other forms of evidence to prove your personal injury claim.
  • Notify Your Insurance Carrier: You are responsible for notifying your insurance company immediately after a car accident. If you fail to do so, you may be denied the insurance coverage that is available to you, such as uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage and medical payments coverage, under your policy.
  • Do Not Discuss Your Injuries with the Other Driver’s Insurance Company: If the insurance company representing the other driver calls you, only discuss your property damage claim for the costs of repairs or replacement of your vehicle. When the insurance claims adjuster asks you questions about your injuries, politely decline and refer them to your injury attorney. Insurance adjusters are trained to ask questions that are formed in the way of misconstruing your words and making it appear that you are not as hurt as you say you are. This, in turn, may affect the value and validity of your personal injury case. Have your injury lawyer deal directly with insurance claims adjusters and defense attorneys to avoid this from happening to you.
  • Contact a Lawyer to Handle Your Personal Injury Claim: If serious injuries are involved in a car accident case, and multiple parties are involved, it is best to retain an injury attorney to handle your claim. The sooner an experienced Brentwood personal injury lawyer is involved in your personal injury accident case, the better. Your attorney will work diligently to gather and preserve evidence necessary for proving your claim and advise you of the steps you should take to build a strong case for fair compensation for your injuries and damages.
