Accident in Lincoln Occurs During Prom Celebration

A firepit accident in Lincoln on May 16 caused severe injuries when someone tossed gasoline onto the blaze, which caused a chemical reaction resulting in burns. The young men attended an informal backyard gathering to celebrate prom. One of the young men who was severely injured was the son of Mark S. Allen, a Sacramento television personality.

Lincoln Fire Department and Police Respond to Accident

According to the Lincoln Fire Department, they said that police and firemen were sent to the location around 1:50 a.m. after receiving a report of three people who had been burned in an accident. When they arrived, they discovered four with burn injuries, two of them with trauma they described as significant. The young people had been gathered around the firepit when the accident happened.

Two People Injured in Firepit Accident Taken to the Hospital With Serious Injuries

Two of the people were treated by paramedics at the scene, while the other two were transported to a hospital with severe burns. Alcohol consumption did not appear to be a factor in the accident.

Allen Makes Statement Following Firepit Accident

Allen stated that his son was expected to be at the UC Davis Burn Center for several weeks during his recovery from the firepit accident. Allen’s son suffered third-degree burns that covered more than 25 percent of his body, including his chest, legs, and right arm. Information about the other person who was seriously injured has not yet been released.

Burn Injuries

Severe burn injuries often require healing skin grafts and special medical care. Because of advances in medicine, even seriously burned individuals have a high survival rate. However, they may end up with scarring and often require occupational and physical therapy. Treatment can be long-lasting. Psychological trauma can also result from a serious burn injury, especially if long rehabilitation and scarring are involved.

The Dangers of Gasoline

Gasoline is a mixture of around 150 substances and is easily ignited even by a spark some distance away. Because the vapor is heavier than air, it can catch fire and travel back to the source, causing an explosion. Unfortunately, people are accustomed to using gasoline to fill the tanks of their vehicles, power their lawnmowers, and other uses, and forget about the risk, especially around a fire.

Seeking the Advice of an Injury Lawyer

When a negligent person or entity caused the burn injuries, the injured party may wish to claim compensation with the help of an injury attorney. Filing a claim can help ensure continued treatment and recover the high medical expenses and other losses. This helps because the family is relieved of the financial stress, and the injured party can concentrate on getting well without additional worries.
