Fiery Car Crash on Highway 299 Results in Major Injuries

On Thursday, June 11, 2020, a car crash on Highway 299 left two people with major injuries. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports, the accident involved a single pickup truck and the driver was placed under arrest for DUI at the scene of the collision. Updates on the conditions of the injured parties have not been reported and the accident is still under CHP investigation.

Crash Information

The collision was reported to CHP dispatch at 7:24 p.m. after an individual heard the incident take place. Emergency responders were immediately sent out to the area. Preliminary investigations conducted at the accident site suggested that the pickup truck had been driving west when the driver lost control.

When they arrived, response officials discovered that a small pickup truck rolled 15 feet down an embankment off of the westbound side of Highway 299 in the area of Hawkins Bar north of Burnt Ranch. The vehicle had caught fire as a result of the crash. Members of the Hawkins Bar Volunteer Fire Department were able to put out the fire when they arrived at the crash scene. CHP indicated that the occupants of the pickup truck were outside of the vehicle by the time the fire started.

Injuries and Arrest

Medical officials determined that both the driver and passenger were seriously hurt during the accident and called for an ambulance. Reports indicated that one of the injured parties suffered fractured vertebrae as a result of the crash.

Before releasing the driver into hospital custody, police placed him under arrest for driving under the influence causing injuries as well as driving without a proper license.

Rollover Accidents

Rollover crashes have a higher rate of serious and fatal injuries than most kinds of car accidents. A large reason for this is that vehicle roofs are sometimes not made of strong enough materials or not designed sturdily enough to withstand a major impact. If the roof crumples while the vehicle overturns, it can intrude into the car’s cabin and injure occupants.

In cases where a weak roof contributes to accident injuries, the auto company that made the car is often considered partially at-fault for damages caused by the accident. It is crucial to preserve your wrecked vehicle when you have been involved in a rollover accident. This means that survivors can file injury claims and seek to hold these companies accountable for losses like medical expenses, damaged property, and more.
