Fatality Reported in Merced County Rollover Crash

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported a fatality after a deadly rollover crash in Merced County on the morning of Sunday, November 22, 2020. The Merced County fatal car crash occurred shortly after 8:20 a.m. in the area of Sandy Mush Road just east of Healy Road. Upon arrival, CHP traffic units located an older model Ford Mustang that had reportedly been involved in a single-vehicle accident. Authorities believe that a 34-year-old man from Chowchilla was driving the Ford with a 41-year-old Merced woman as his passenger. For unknown reasons, the Ford veered off the roadway and overturned several times, ejecting both occupants out of the vehicle. According to the CHP, the Ford driver was allegedly pinned under the car, and a passerby attempted to assist by extricating him. Sadly, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The decedent involved in the fatal Merced County crash has not yet been identified due to pending notification of family members. The female passenger was taken by air ambulance to a hospital in Fresno for treatment of serious injuries. An update regarding the incident has not yet been released since an investigation is currently underway.

Options for Recovery After a Single-Vehicle Accident

When an individual is involved in a single-vehicle collision, there may be several potential options for recovery when dealing with medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. The same may be said for surviving family members who may be in a financial predicament and need assistance with end-of-life medical care, funeral costs, loss of future financial support if their loved one was the household’s primary provider, and other losses. In some cases, the family of the decedent may be able to make a claim against negligent parties with the assistance of a Merced wrongful death attorney.

Passengers in the car may be able to file a personal injury claim for damages from the insurance company representing the driver involved in the single-vehicle crash. In other situations, the traffic collision may be attributed to a defect in the vehicle itself or poor road design, which means the driver or passengers of the car may be able to make a claim against the automaker or government entity responsible for the crash. This is possible so long as it can be proven that the car manufacturer was responsible for the vehicle defect or the government entity failed in their duty to properly design and maintain the public roadway. For instance, a vehicle manufacturer may be held financially responsible for a deadly rollover accident if the vehicle involved failed to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 216 on roof crush resistance. This is critical for evidence, so it is important to preserve your vehicle after being in a rollover. Regardless of the circumstances involved in a fatal Merced County crash, those who have been hurt or lost a family member in a single-vehicle accident should consider seeking assistance from a top-rated personal injury attorney in Merced.
