Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash on Camino Diablo

Officials in Contra Costa County reported a fatal two-vehicle crash on Camino Diablo Road on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 15, 2022. The traffic collision was said to have taken place at approximately 5:40 p.m. in the area of Camino Diablo and Byron Highway.

Details on the Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash on Camino Diablo

The California Highway Patrol responded to a crash involving two vehicles on Byron Highway in the vicinity of Camino Diablo Road. A preliminary report revealed that an Acura sedan was headed southbound on Byron Highway. At the same time, a Chevrolet Suburban was going northbound on Byron Highway. The Acura reportedly entered the oncoming lane and collided with the Chevrolet, according to CHP traffic officers.

Both cars veered off the roadway and struck telephone poles after the first crash. The Acura driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and sustained injuries described as minor. There were nine occupants inside the Chevrolet at the time of the collision. Eight of the occupants suffered injuries described as moderate. Sadly, the ninth passenger was declared dead at the scene of the two-vehicle accident.

Officials indicated that the incident prompted the response of CALFIRE and Alameda County Fire to handle a vegetation fire that was started from a vehicle fire. The Acura driver was later arrested on suspicion of DUI. Those with information on the two-vehicle crash and the sequence of events leading up to it are encouraged to reach out to the California Highway Patrol Martinez area office.

Things to Know About Wrongful Death Cases

Coming to terms with the loss of a loved one is always challenging. But when the loss was the result of someone else’s negligent actions, it may be even harder to deal with. That is because surviving family members may be unsure of what steps to take next and feel uncertain about their future. Whether a survivor has grounds for a wrongful death claim and to what extent they will be able to seek economic and non-economic damages will depend on their relationship with the decedent. Under the California Code of Civil Procedure Section 377.60, surviving family members that have priority include the deceased person’s children, domestic partner, and spouse. When such relationships do not exist, other relatives who were financially dependent on the decedent may be eligible for filing.

While no amount of money can replace what was lost, the damages awarded in a wrongful death case are intended to help surviving family members with the unexpected losses they have faced because of their loved one’s sudden passing. By working with a Byron wrongful death attorney, they may seek compensation on your family’s behalf for medical expenses associated with your loved one’s final injury, funeral costs, loss of future earnings, lost companionship, and other losses. When the other side’s actions were particularly egregious, your accident attorney may seek punitive damages to punish the at-fault party and deter them and others from engaging in similar conduct. Remember that a two-year deadline generally applies to these cases. Learn more about wrongful death claims by watching this video.
