Mikey Kelley Manteca CA

A two-vehicle accident took place in Stockton during the nighttime hours of Wednesday, October 18, 2017. The accident caused one vehicle to lose control and collide with the guardrail of the roadway. Unfortunately, the driver of that vehicle suffered fatal injuries.

We would like to send our sincerest thoughts and condolences to the loved ones of Michael Kelley Jr. who passed away in this devastating car accident.

What Happened?

A 55-year-old Tracy woman was driving her 2009 Mazda CX-9 southbound along Interstate 5 in the vicinity of Louise Avenue at approximately 11:00 pm. The Mazda was traveling in the No. 2 lane at approximately 70 miles per hour. At the same time, a Livermore man was driving his 1997 GMC Sonoma southbound along Interstate 5. The GMC was approaching the Mazda at an alleged high rate of speed and was unable to avoid the slower-moving vehicle.

The front-end of the GMC collided with the rear-end of the Mazda. The impact of the collision propelled the GMC across the No. 1 lane and caused the vehicle to overturn. The vehicle struck a guardrail and the man was ejected upon impact.

Was Anybody Injured?

The woman driving the Mazda suffered minor injuries in the accident. It is not yet known whether she was hospitalized for her injuries. The man driving the GMC, sadly, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office later identified the man as 26-year-old Michael Kelley Jr.

What Caused the Accident?

It is still too soon for authorities to determine the cause of the accident. Usually, Traffic Collision Reports are processed within two weeks from the date of the car accident. Officials from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) are investigating whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.

Preventing Car Accidents

Car accidents are reported every day. Some accidents are caused by speeding, while others are a result of inattentive driving. Anticipate the actions of those driving in your proximity. Maintain a safe distance between your vehicle and the car in front of you. Always pay close attention to the road when driving to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
