Losing a Loved One

The sudden death of a close relative is something that no family should ever have to experience. The unfortunate reality is that innocent individuals lose their lives due to carelessness and negligence every day. This may leave surviving family members asking what happened and what went wrong. This is where an experienced Brentwood wrongful death attorney comes in.

When a family needs the time to grieve and process their loss, they can depend on their lawyer to investigate what caused their loved one’s death and determine who should be held accountable. Since 1982, our law firm has handled wrongful death cases and has the experience needed to obtain the best outcome possible for you and your family.

Types of Wrongful Death Compensation

Recovering damages after the loss of a close relative may not be a high priority for surviving family members. However, our law firm is committed to ensuring survivors have the financial means they need to move forward. We have the experience, skills, and resources which put us in a position to obtain fair compensation in wrongful death cases. This includes compensation for:

  • Costs of medical treatment incurred before the decedent passed away
  • Expenses for a loved one’s funeral and burial services
  • Mental anguish and emotional suffering
  • Loss of care, companionship, guidance, moral support, and protection
  • Lost future wages for the family in which can be high if the decedent was the primary provider
  • Punitive damages in which are intended to punish the negligent party for egregious conduct

The amount of compensation awarded in a wrongful death lawsuit will vary based on the facts and circumstances of the case. To learn more about the claims process, watch the video below.

Why is it Important to Work with an Attorney on a Fatal Truck Accident Case?

When a loved one passes away, taking legal action may not be on your mind. However, if you want to obtain justice for your loss by holding at-fault parties responsible, it is critical to gather and preserve evidence, obtain statements from witnesses, and consult an attorney to ensure your rights are protected.

A wrongful death attorney will determine if you have grounds for a lawsuit that is subject to a statute of limitations. In California, there is a two-year statute of limitations on wrongful death cases, which starts at the time of loss. If the case is not filed in civil court within the specified deadline, the family may lose the right to recovery of damages incurred.

How Our Law Firm Handles Wrongful Death Cases

The resolution of a wrongful death claim is not a straightforward process. Each case must be handled on an individual and unique basis. Our legal team tailors our representation to best suit the needs of our clients while challenging difficult insurance companies and defense counsel. Our wrongful death attorneys conduct independent investigations, gather evidence, and enlist expert witnesses to build a strong case to protect our clients’ rights and honor their loss.

A successful wrongful death case cannot fully replace what surviving family members have lost.
