Sutter County Car Accident Kills One

One person lost their life in a Sutter County car accident that occurred on Friday, February 21, 2020. According to information reported by California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident happened during the late evening at a rural highway location outside of Yuba City. Sutter County authorities have not yet released the decedent’s full identity, but have indicated that he was a 67-year-old Yuba County resident. Whether or not any other individuals were injured during the crash has not been reported.

Crash Details

The accident took place at about 6:45 p.m. on Highway 113 in the area of Knights Road. CHP says that the decedent was driving a Toyota Camry heading north on 113 just past Knights Road at a speed of around 60 miles per hour behind a commercial vehicle. At the same time, an 18-year-old woman was driving south on 113 in a Nissan Sentra at around 55 miles per hour, approaching the location of the Camry.

As both vehicles entered a sweeping curve in the highway, the Camry driver apparently attempted to pass the commercial vehicle. While attempting to pass, the Nissan entered the path of the Camry. Both vehicles reportedly attempted to avoid a collision by entering the western highway shoulder, where they collided head-on.

Responders called to the crash scene reportedly found that the Toyota driver suffered critical injuries during the incident. Tragically, he was pronounced deceased at the site of the collision.

Investigation

CHP is investigating what may have caused this tragic car crash. Investigators have reported that they do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors, but have not reported any suspected causes.

When a person loses their life during a car crash, investigators lose their side of the story. This can make determining what factors were involved more difficult and often leads to police overlooking critical collision evidence like faulty car parts or defects in the road. To ensure that the accident is investigated to the fullest extent, it’s very important to work with a wrongful death attorney who has the experience and resources to privately investigate the crash.

The Cost of Fatal Collisions

A fatal collision is a tragedy, and people who’ve lost a loved one are often left with overwhelming grief. Learning to cope with feelings of grief can take a very long time, and the loss of a person you love is life-changing. During the initial stages of grieving, it’s important to do everything you can to take care of yourself and get help from your loved ones, friends, and community.

However, fatal crashes can also come with major financial consequences, and these issues can make it almost impossible for families to focus on their emotional wellbeing. A sudden death in the family can mean a loss of household services and/or income that you rely on to live your daily life.

While you can never replace a person you love, it is often possible to obtain financial compensation for damages suffered during a fatal accident.
