What to Expect from the Insurance Claims Process for a Single-Vehicle Accident

Dealing with traumatic injuries or the sudden death of a family member is painful and devastating on its own. With the knowledge that the harm has happened because of someone else’s negligence, it may make the situation even more challenging to come to terms with. When met with such an ordeal, it is crucial to hold those responsible for the incident accountable for the harm their actions have caused. In the case of a catastrophic or fatal car accident, this may be accomplished through a bodily injury claim or a wrongful death action.

Part of the process of moving forward is to determine the cause of the incident and seek justice for accident-related injuries or the sudden loss of a loved one. Bringing a civil case against the at-fault party may relieve some of the financial and emotional burdens that have accompanied the crash. A personal injury claim addresses economic and non-economic damages in connection to the incident, including medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Conversely, a wrongful death action considers the financial and intangible losses related to the loss of a loved one, such as costs of end-of-life medical care, funeral service bills, future financial support necessary to maintain surviving family members, mental anguish, and loss of companionship.

While there is a wide array of professionals that an injured party or family of a decedent may reach out to, retaining legal counsel is the most effective way to bring a claim forward. Despite liability being clear for the car accident, difficult insurance companies may make the navigation of the claims process challenging for survivors. Hiring a Stockton wrongful death lawyer may help ease the stress and worry for claimants with grief and legal matters at the same time. Having a lawyer represent you may not only be crucial in the outcome of your case but also provide you with the guidance you need to move forward from your situation.
