Fatal Pedestrian Accident in Folsom

A fatal pedestrian accident occurred in Folsom on May 14 when a walker was struck by a motor vehicle. According to a spokesperson for the Folsom Police Department, the pedestrian was inside the crosswalk and passing to the other side of the street about 6:00 in the morning when the accident happened. An adult male motorist was going west on Blue Ravine Road where it intersects with Natoma Station Drive when his vehicle struck the walker. I want to offer my sympathy and prayers to the friends and family of the deceased for their loss in this trying time.

Further Details

The driver reported to authorities that he did not spot the pedestrian and thought the light was green when the accident occurred. The pedestrian struck the windshield of the vehicle upon impact, which shattered the motor vehicle’s windshield. Following the fatal pedestrian accident, the driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with local authorities. There were multiple witnesses to the accident reported, and the road was shut down as police investigated the incident. The name of the deceased person has not yet been released, pending family notification.

Pedestrian Accidents

Those who are on foot are among our most vulnerable citizens when they are struck by a motorist. Serious injuries are common, and many end up in a fatal pedestrian accident. Motorists can help avoid accidents with pedestrians by practicing the following:

  • Never drink and drive: Drunk drivers cause a high number of accidents each year. Intoxication means that the driver exhibits poor judgment, slowed reflexes and their visual acuity is lessened.
  • Don’t drive distracted: Distracted driving is another way that a fatal pedestrian accident can occur. It is illegal in California to use your hands to text or talk on a phone while driving. However, it has also been shown that using a phone in any capacity while driving endangers others.
  • Don’t speed: This common problem can endanger others. A fatal pedestrian accident is more likely to happen when drivers are speeding. The faster the speed, the more likely a fatality.
  • Don’t drive drowsy: Those who are sleepy when behind the wheel of a car are less likely to spot a pedestrian crossing the street.

Seeking Advice From a Personal Injury Lawyer

Those who have lost a loved one because of negligence can benefit from speaking to an experienced lawyer. Family members who were supported by that loved one have the right to place a wrongful death claim to obtain financial compensation. This includes the spouse or putative spouse, children, and stepchildren or parents if they lived in the home and received at least 50 percent of their support from the decedent. Damages that can be recovered include funeral and burial expenses, lost future income, and noneconomic damages. Having a compassionate and seasoned lawyer at your side during this trying time cannot help with the grief you feel. However, it can make the transition, at least the financial end of it, easier on the family.
