Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Highway 108

Officers with the California Highway Patrol reported a fatal motorcycle crash on Highway 108 in Tuolumne County on the night of Monday, August 22, 2022. The incident happened around 9:50 p.m. on State Route 108 near La Grange Road, according to officials.

Details on the Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Highway 108 in Tuolumne County

A preliminary report revealed that a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado traveled across westbound SR-108. The pickup was said to have come from the turnaround for Rushing Hill Lookout Road. The Chevrolet was carrying an unspecified number of beekeeper boxes in the back, CHP traffic officers said. At the same time, 67-year-old Eugene Gragg of Modesto was riding a 2003 Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound on State Route 108, approaching the turnaround. As the Chevrolet traveled across SR-108, the front of the motorcycle allegedly crashed into the passenger side of the truck.

The impact of the collision propelled the man off the bike. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries at the crash site, authorities reported. The Chevrolet driver, a 62-year-old Oakdale man, stayed at the scene and contacted emergency personnel for assistance. The Oakdale man was uninjured in the incident, officials said. Some of the bees were agitated following the crash from at least one of the beekeeper boxes cracking in the collision. Those with information on the incident are encouraged to contact the Sonora area CHP office.

How a Lawyer Can Help with Your Wrongful Death Case

When bringing a wrongful death claim for a fatal motorcycle crash, liability must be established through clear and compelling evidence. One way a family’s accident attorney can prove fault for a traffic collision is by ordering a traffic incident report. Such documents provide information about the fatal incident, involved parties, and the reporting officer’s determination for fault. Other forms of evidence that a Modesto motorcycle accident attorney may use to establish liability for a fatal crash may include studying pictures and videos taken at the collision site, working with an accident reconstruction expert, analyzation of video surveillance footage, reviewing medical records, and ordering the autopsy report.
