Fatal Highway 65 Accident

I’m Ed Smith, a Roseville car accident lawyer. A five car accident took place in Placer County during the evening hours of Monday, January 16, 2017. The accident caused injuries to multiple occupants in the involved vehicles. Unfortunately, one of the occupants suffered fatal injuries due to the crash.

What Happened?

Five vehicles were traveling along the northbound lanes of Highway 65 in Roseville. For reasons that have not been disclosed, the five vehicles crashed into one another resulting in a multiple vehicle accident. The impact of the crash caused the vehicles to sustain severe body damage and even caused one vehicle to overturn. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) closed down the northbound lanes of Highway 65 for a short time after the crash. CHP redirected traffic towards the exit for Blue Oaks Boulevard to re-enter Highway 65 to avoid the crash scene.

What Caused the Accident?

It is too soon to know what caused this tragic accident. It generally takes authorities up to two weeks to generate a traffic collision report. Once released, the traffic report typically states a cause of the crash. Sometimes the report is inconclusive or in error pertaining to causation (fault) for the crash. This can leave the family member of the victims who pass away with many unanswered questions. It is important to contact an experienced car accident lawyer who can properly investigate the events leading up to the collision and pinpoint liability.

The following video demonstrates the severity of this automobile accident. As you will note in the video, one vehicle overturned and became mangled due to the force of impact. The other vehicles sustained severe body damage in the accident. The video also shows scattered automobile parts throughout the lanes of travel along this stretch of Highway 65. This prompted the closure of a portion of the highway by CHP to ensure the safety of all motorists approaching the accident scene.

What Types of Injuries?

Several occupants involved in the crash were taken to a local hospital to be treated for critical injuries. It was reported that a few occupants were walking around the scene after the crash. The injuries of these reported occupants are unknown. Unfortunately, one occupants suffered fatal injuries in this accident. An 18-year-old resident of Wheatland, Robert Thomas Wilson, passed away in the collision.
