Fatal Head-On Collision on Santa Fe Avenue
Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported a fatal head-on collision on Santa Fe Avenue and Monte Vista Avenue just south of Denair on the morning of Thursday, September 16, 2021. The incident took place at approximately 6:30 a.m. and involved a Subaru SUV, Nissan SUV, and a Toyota sedan.

CHP traffic officers revealed in a preliminary report that a northbound Subaru SUV was allegedly involved in a head-on collision with a Toyota sedan headed southbound on Santa Fe Avenue. The impact of the car crash propelled the Toyota backward and into the Nissan SUV, traveling behind it, resulting in a rear-end collision.
The Subaru driver, a 63-year-old Modesto man, was transported to Emmanuel Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. His identity has been withheld by officials due to pending notification of family members. The Toyota driver was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of leg injuries described as major. The Nissan driver, a 48-year-old resident of Modesto, did not report any injuries. The Nissan and Toyota both did not carry any passengers at the time of the fatal car accident.
The roadway was shut down for several hours for authorities to conduct an investigation. Officials revealed in a press release that the incident happened in an area where it is a legal passing zone. Additional information on the motor vehicle collision was not immediately available.
