The Ceres Police Department reported a fatal head-on collision at Boothe Road and Hatch Road on the night of December 12, 2023. The crash occurred at approximately 8:20 p.m.

A preliminary report indicated that a Toyota Prius and a Chrysler 300 were involved in a head-on collision at the intersection of Boothe Road and Hatch Road in Ceres. One of the vehicles allegedly veered over the double yellow lines and collided head-on with the other car. Three parties were found trapped inside both cars and unresponsive, officials said.
The Toyota driver, a Castro Valley resident, age 64, was transported to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries. They were last reported to be in stable condition. Emergency personnel extricated a passenger out of the Toyota and performed life-saving measures. Sadly, the passenger, 89-year-old Castro Valley resident Leroy Don Smith, was declared deceased at the crash site.
Emergency crews extricated the Chrysler driver from their car and transported them to the hospital. Sadly, the Chrysler driver succumbed to injuries during hospitalization. Officials have identified the deceased as 36-year-old Ceres resident Youkhana Atrmiz. An exact cause of the incident has not yet been determined by Ceres PD, as an investigation into the fatal head-on collision is ongoing.
