Fatal Freeway Crash on Business 80 in Sacramento

A person died early Friday morning, May 22, 2026, following a fatal freeway crash on Business 80 in Sacramento, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Collision Happened Near El Camino Avenue Off-Ramp

CHP traffic logs indicate the incident was reported shortly before 3 a.m. on southbound Business 80, just north of the El Camino Avenue off-ramp.

Preliminary information suggests the incident involved a person being struck by a vehicle on the freeway. Authorities responding to the scene confirmed that the victim suffered fatal injuries.

Lanes Temporarily Closed During Investigation

Following the crash, three southbound lanes were temporarily shut down while investigators examined the scene and crews worked to clear the roadway. Traffic delays impacted motorists traveling through the area during the early morning hours.

Authorities reopened the lanes around 5 a.m. after completing the initial investigation and roadway cleanup.
