Fatal Crash on 16th Street in Oakland
On the morning of December 13, 2023, the Oakland Police Department reported a fatal two-vehicle crash at Mandela Parkway and 16th Street. The incident occurred at approximately 10:45 a.m. and involved a Ford Fusion and a Honda Accord.

A preliminary release revealed that Ford was allegedly previously involved in a separate incident described as a hit-and-run accident. The Ford driver was reportedly traveling at excessive speeds down 16th Street and failed to come to a stop at two posted stop signs. According to Oakland PD, this was when the Ford struck the Honda Accord.
Sadly, the Honda driver sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Officials have identified the deceased as Samrawit Abbadura, 23, of Oakland. A passenger in the Honda sustained multiple injuries, including fractures, and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Authorities indicated that the Ford was later determined to be a stolen vehicle. The Ford driver was allegedly booked into Santa Rita Jail on investigation for possession of stolen property, car theft, felony hit-and-run, and vehicular manslaughter.
