Driver Dies in Single-Vehicle Fatal Crash

Placer County Fire Department emergency responders were called to the site, and CHP traffic officers were aided by deputies with the Sheriff’s Office. The injured party was taken by ground transportation to Sutter Roseville medical center but was declared deceased. The deceased driver’s identity will not be released until the family has been notified. An investigation into the cause of the fatal crash is underway.

Non-Negligence-Related Wrongful Deaths

Accidents can occur due to speeding and other types of negligence. However, there are a number of reasons why an accident can result in a fatality, including the following two.

Government Negligence Can Result in a Fatal Crash

Whenever a government department or agency fails to adequately perform its job, tragic consequences can result – including wrongful death. Here are some examples of government road neglect that may cause accidents:

  • Inadequate signage placement
  • Trees or shrubs that are overgrown can obscure the driver’s view
  • Poorly maintained roads or bridges
  • The driver’s ability to see clearly ahead is negatively affected by poor overhead lighting
  • An out-of-control vehicle can be caused by potholes

There is still a six-month time limit for filing a claim against the government, even if the government entity is liable for the fatal accident. An injury lawyer can help ensure paperwork is completed and filed in a timely manner.

Fatal Accidents Caused by Defective Auto Parts

The failure of defective auto parts can have disastrous consequences if they are not identified and replaced in a timely manner. A defective automobile part can lead to a malfunction or breakdown when it fails to perform its intended function. A faulty auto part can lead to a fatal crash.

When brakes malfunction, a vehicle may crash or even roll over. The occupants of a car may suffer more severe injuries if an airbag fails to deploy in an accident due to a defect. Passengers can suffer severe injuries or even death when their seatbelt malfunctions, ejecting them from the vehicle.

In a fatal crash, it is important to keep the vehicle involved. By doing so, defects can be detected. A product liability claim may be filed if it is found that a defect caused the accident.

Compensation for Wrongful Death

The amount of damages that can be recovered from a wrongful death depends on several factors. It is usually possible to recover the following:

  • The cost of the funeral and burial
  • A loss of earnings until retirement age
  • The spouse’s loss of consortium
  • The cost of household services performed by the decedent
  • Pain and suffering by family members
