Fatal Car Accident on State Route 198
According to the California Highway Patrol, a fatal car accident occurred on State Route 198 near Hanford in Kings County on August 6, 2023. The crash occurred along SR-198 in the vicinity of 27th Avenue at approximately 11:30 a.m.

A preliminary release revealed that a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 was headed eastbound on SR-198 while a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado was headed westbound. The Silverado driver allegedly veered the vehicle to the left, was traveling the wrong way on Highway 198, and collided with the S-10. Emergency personnel was at the scene for approximately three hours to investigate and clear the crash site.
Sadly, the S-10 driver suffered fatal injuries at the crash site. Officials have identified the deceased as 82-year-old Huron resident Maria Aguerralde. A passenger in the S-10 was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
The Silverado driver was transported via air ambulance to a hospital for treatment of accident-related injuries before being placed under arrest for DUI. Additional information on the crash has not yet been released by the California Highway Patrol.
