Fatal Car Accident on State Route 198

According to the California Highway Patrol, a fatal car accident occurred on State Route 198 near Hanford in Kings County on August 6, 2023. The crash occurred along SR-198 in the vicinity of 27th Avenue at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Details on the Fatal Car Accident on State Route 198 in Kings County

A preliminary release revealed that a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 was headed eastbound on SR-198 while a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado was headed westbound. The Silverado driver allegedly veered the vehicle to the left, was traveling the wrong way on Highway 198, and collided with the S-10. Emergency personnel was at the scene for approximately three hours to investigate and clear the crash site.

Sadly, the S-10 driver suffered fatal injuries at the crash site. Officials have identified the deceased as 82-year-old Huron resident Maria Aguerralde. A passenger in the S-10 was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.

The Silverado driver was transported via air ambulance to a hospital for treatment of accident-related injuries before being placed under arrest for DUI. Additional information on the crash has not yet been released by the California Highway Patrol. An investigation into the fatal car accident on State Route 198 near Hanford in Kings County is ongoing by CHP traffic officers.
