Details on the Fatal Car Accident Reported in Unincorporated Brentwood

A preliminary report by authorities revealed that a Honda Civic came to a stop to make a left turn when it was reportedly rear-ended by a Dodge Ram. The impact of the collision allegedly propelled the Honda into oncoming traffic where it was involved in a head-on collision with a Ford Expedition SUV.

CHP traffic officers, first responders and crews with the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District (ECCFPD) responded to the scene to provide assistance to those involved. Sadly, the Honda driver was declared deceased at the scene. The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office has recently identified the decedent as Jesus Virgen Medina, 39, of Pittsburg. A GoFundMe page has been established on behalf of Mr. Medina and his family. Additional information on the fatal car accident was not immediately released by officials in Contra Costa County.

What You Should Know About the Car Accident Claims Process

If the negligence of another party or entity has injured you or caused a loss of a loved one in an accident, a claim may be brought against the other party for resulting losses. Car accident claims may be challenging as the process is not always straightforward, but your rights as an injured party or surviving family member matter.

Keep in mind that insurance carriers are generally involved when paying for economic and non-economic damages caused by a motor vehicle collision in a personal injury claim or wrongful death action. What this may mean is that you should expect insurers to offer quick settlement offers, dispute liability, or delay or deny claims as they do so as a way of protecting their bottom line. The insurance company will often take advantage of claimants in their vulnerable moments when they need quick funds to help cover unexpected expenses.

Regardless of the facts and circumstances involved in a car accident case involving injuries or a loss of life, a lawyer with years of experience will know how to evaluate your claim, determine which parties should be held liable for damages incurred, and advise you on the best options to take to move forward in your situation. Finding the right lawyer to handle your claim may be challenging, especially if you do not know what to look for in one. Is There a Deadline on Car Accident Claims in California?

Injured parties and families of decedents generally have two years from the date of an accident to file a lawsuit in civil court. This is by the California Code of Civil Procedure Section 335.1. There are other filing criteria and deadlines that also must be met based upon the facts of the case. Failing to meet the statute of limitations may lead to the loss of valuable legal rights.

To protect your right as a claimant, it is best to seek the advice and assistance of an accident attorney. Not only will this protect your right to seek financial compensation, but it also provides your case with the best chances of obtaining a favorable outcome by allowing your lawyer to devise a strategy that best suits your needs.
