Fatal Anderson Trucking Accident

Pedestrian Killed in Fatal Anderson Trucking Accident

On Monday, May 25, 2020, a fatal Anderson trucking accident left one person with injuries that tragically cost him his life. Shasta County Sheriff’s Office officials have identified the decedent as 55-year-old Robert Edward Sturghill of Fresno. The collision occurred in the very early morning on Interstate 5 and California Highway Patrol (CHP) investigators say the accident likely involved more than one vehicle. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Collision Details

The accident happened at around 4:00 a.m. on the southbound side of I-5 close to the exit for Deschutes Road. CHP reported that a big-rig drifted off the road and crashed into a guardrail. After the initial crash, police suspect that Mr. Sturghill exited the big rig through the driver’s side door. After leaving the vehicle, he was struck by a second vehicle.

Response

After the crash was reported, CHP sent an emergency team to the accident site. Responders reportedly discovered Mr. Sturghill lying on the road. Tragically, he was pronounced deceased on-site.

While a second truck reportedly stopped at the accident scene, police say that they do not know which vehicle struck the decedent.

Investigation

While the accident is still under investigation, police have stated that they do not know what factors were involved. CHP spokesperson Annie Garcia indicated that it was still dark out when the accident happened. Garcia also added that lighter traffic in the area has resulted in higher speeds and that drivers should practice caution in order to avoid accidents.

Collisions like this one are often difficult for officers to investigate. Being unable to obtain testimony from the injured party means that investigators may not uncover important evidence that could have a major impact on a wrongful death claim. To be sure that your accident is investigated to the fullest extent, it’s important to get help from an experienced lawyer. Your attorney should know how to privately investigate an accident with your family’s right to compensation as a priority.

Taking Quick Action

The grief that people experience after a deadly car accident can be very intense, and many people have a hard time keeping up with the demands of their regular lives. For this reason, it’s common for grieving people to delay contacting an attorney. While it’s important to take the steps you need in order to cope with your feelings, it’s also critical to have an attorney as soon as possible so that your family can hold negligent parties liable for the damages you’ve suffered.

It’s especially important to take quick action in cases that involve commercial trucks because trucking companies typically do everything they can to avoid liability. In many cases, the company will even send out a legal response team to the accident site. Having a skilled Anderson wrongful death lawyer can help you know that your case is being handled, meaning that you can focus on processing your grief.
