Accident Causes

Appearances can be deceiving sometimes when it comes to the cause of an injury accident or fatality. Not all traffic fatalities are caused by driver error. An experienced injury lawyer can uncover the truth following an injury or fatal accident. When negligence by another person or entity was the cause, the family may be entitled to claim compensation for their loss. Although it does not relieve their grief or sense of loss, it can help address the financial burden they may face. It is important to preserve the vehicle after a crash so that it can be inspected by an experienced car accident lawyer

Causes of a Single-Vehicle Accident

Most single-vehicle accidents are the result of driver error. However, other factors may come into play that contributes to a motorist’s death. Reasons for a single-vehicle fatal accident include:

  • Hit-and-run driver: Because a hit-and-run driver leaves the scene of a crash, it may not be apparent that another vehicle caused the fatal accident.
  • Government negligence: If the entity in charge of maintenance failed in their duty, which led to a fatal accident or injuries, they may be held financially responsible. Government negligence may include weakened protective guardrails, potholes, overhanging limbs that obscure signage, and others.
  • Mechanical defect: When a vehicle has a defect in its steering, brakes, accelerator, or elsewhere, it can result in a fatal accident. The manufacturer and others may be held responsible financially through a product liability lawsuit. Be sure to contact an experienced car accident lawyer if you suspect a mechanical defect contributed to or caused the crash. Be sure to preserve the vehicle to determine if a mechanical defect contributed to or caused the car wreck.

Helping a Grieving Family Following a Death

Losing a loved one leaves family members with feelings of shock, disbelief, grief, and anger that is difficult for them to address. Friends, neighbors and other family members want to be supportive in their time of need but don’t always know how to go about it. Following are some suggestions that might help:

  • Phone, visit or send a sympathy card, flowers, or a charitable donation.
  • If it’s permissible, visit and lend a sympathetic ear to a grieving person as they talk about their loved one and their loss.
  • Offer to run errands such as picking up the children from school, groceries, or prescriptions.
  • Lend a hand around the home such as washing dishes, babysitting, or lawn mowing.
  • Remember to be there for those who are grieving after the funeral services are over.
