Fairfield Man Identified After Canal Crash
On Tuesday, October 8, 2019, officials from the Solano County Sheriff’s Department reported the identity of a man who tragically passed away during a car accident that took place near Vacaville the day prior. The decedent was identified as Eusebio Praxedis-Reyes, a 50-year-old Fairfield man. According to police reports, Praxedis-Reyes’ 27-year-old son had also been in the vehicle at the time of the accident and suffered minor injuries as a result. California Highway Patrol (CHP) has indicated that they are currently investigating this accident.
Crash Information
The collision took place at approximately 2:00 p.m. Praxedis-Reyes’s son had been driving a white Toyota Corolla southbound on Mankas Corner Road between Fairfield and Vacaville when he apparently lost control of the vehicle before swerving onto the right-hand shoulder. The Toyota lost traction and crashed through a chain-link fence before it slid into a nearby canal close to the intersection of Ledgewood Road. The Toyota reportedly landed on its roof in the canal.
Emergency response staff arriving at the scene reported that they found the Toyota partially submerged in water. Praxedis-Reyes’ son had been able to escape the vehicle before it filled with water, but the older man was found trapped inside the wrecked car. Firefighters removed him from the wreckage by using extrication machinery. Tragically, Praxedis-Reyes was officially pronounced deceased on-site at 2:48 p.m. According to reports, his son declined hospital treatment for his injuries.
Investigation
As officers of CHP look into what may have caused this tragic accident, reports indicate that investigators do not believe intoxication to have been a factor. Often, single-vehicle accidents like this one are caused by a factor that drivers cannot control.
