Fairfield Liquor Store Car Crash

I’m Ed Smith, a Fairfield Personal Injury Lawyer. On Monday, a vehicle struck the front window of a convenience store located just east of the freeway between Travis Boulevard and Benicia Street, causing significant damage to the storefront as well as the vehicle itself.

Accident Details

The collision took place at around 11 a.m. at  7-Seven Food and Liquor on Second Street at the corner of West Texas and the driver was identified by the Fairfield Police Department as a 65-year-old woman and long-time resident of Fairfield. It was reported that the woman had been driving a red Toyota four-door Sedan in the parking lot outside the business when she suddenly accelerated her vehicle into a parking space and neglected to stop at the sidewalk, ultimately driving her vehicle into the large glass window at the front of the store. The vehicle was, thankfully, stopped when the front right tire collided with the building’s outer wall.

Police Response to the Fairfield Liquor Store Crash

The on-duty employees of the store reported the incident to the Fairfield Police Department, who responded promptly. When police arrived, they found the driver of the Toyota apparently uninjured. However, she was treated by medical professionals in order to screen for any injuries that might not have been obvious. Officers reported that nobody else was injured as a result of the accident.

Possible Causes

The Fairfield Police Department has not yet issued any statement on what they believe to be the causal factor(s) of the incident. While the cause of the accident is unknown, it is possible that the accident was caused by distracted driving, defective car parts, a medical condition on the part of the driver, simple negligent driving behavior, or a myriad of other causes.

Damages

Photos taken at the scene of the collision show that the front end of the vehicle sustained major damages during the accident. The front end of the vehicle was damaged beyond the point of being operational and had to be towed away from the location of the wreck. Photos also show that the storefront received significant damages including a large broken window and damaged goods that had been on display near the window. Further damages are possible but are currently unreported. The estimated value of the damages of both parties are also unreported.

Distracted Driving

While it is not known whether or not distracted driving played a part in this particular incident, incidents like this are caused by distracted driving at an increasing rate. Paying attention to anything other than the task of driving always presents a level of risk to the driver, and while drivers can feel like the act of driving is automatic, the ability to react quickly to changing road conditions is vitally important to avoiding accidents that can cause damages to property as well as serious and, in the most extreme cases, fatal injuries.
