Rollover Accident Reported on Madison Avenue

A single-vehicle crash near the Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks on November 3 sent one person to the hospital. The accident happened around 2:09 p.m. along Madison Avenue between Kenneth Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that a sedan had overturned along the right-hand side of the street and ended up on its roof into the bushes.

One Person Transported to Hospital Following Single-Vehicle Crash

Sacramento Fire Department first responders were called to the scene. People were getting out of the car. However, one patient was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Center for treatment and additional evaluation. The CHP is investigating to determine what happened to cause the vehicle rollover.

Rollover Accidents

A single-vehicle crash and other accidents can often result in a rollover. While many rollovers occur due to the high center of gravity on the vehicle, such as vans, light pickups, and SUVs, any car can experience this type of collision if it is struck just right. Some of the causes include:

  • It tips over after tripping over an object (guardrail, curb, uneven pavement, etc.).
  • The vehicle leaves the road and goes down an embankment.
  • A quick or sharp turn can lead to a rollover.
  • The vehicle is struck from the side by another, which can easily cause a rollover.

What Type of Injuries Can Occur in a Single-Vehicle Crash Involving a Rollover?

Because those inside the vehicle are tossed around more in a rollover and seat belts may let go, trauma in this type of single-vehicle accident is often severe, including:

  • Traumatic brain injuries from concussions to more severe types of TBI
  • Broken bones
  • Spinal cord trauma, leading to temporary or permanent paralysis
  • Internal injuries such as out-of-control bleeding or organ damage
  • Chest trauma from heavy bruising to broken ribs or lung collapse
  • Neck injuries, including cervical strain or sprain
  • Amputation of a digit or limb

Roof Crush in a Single-Vehicle Crash Rollover

Roof crush occurs when a vehicle rolls, and the top of the car caves in on the people inside. When this happens, it can increase the severity of injuries and reduce survivability. Although manufacturers are held to standards on the strength of the roofs (they must support 3.5 times the weight of the vehicle), not all of them comply with these rules.

Retaining a vehicle after a collision is crucial because not only roof crush can occur. In addition, a defective auto part might have caused or contributed to the injury accident. Retaining the vehicle can be examined for these faults, and the manufacturer and others can be held responsible by filing an auto product liability claim.
