Social Distancing While Having Fun Outdoors in Kelseyville

We are all aware that the Coronavirus has put a damper on most, if not all of 2020, making it difficult for us to enjoy some of our favorite pastimes. While researchers are busying trying to develop a vaccine to fight off the virus, it could take years before things can get back to normal.

Like most places in California, indoor activities are currently not permitted in Kelseyville, but there are still plenty of outdoor activities for you to enjoy. Whether you’re a resident, new in town, or just passing through Kelseyville, there is a variety of places you can explore while practicing social distancing.

Below are a few activities that can help you get some fresh air, stay in shape, and make this pandemic more tolerable.

Climb a Mountain

Just two miles from downtown Kelseyville is the impressive Mt. Konocti, Lake County’s ancient volcano. It provides a fantastic backdrop to Clearlake, the largest freshwater lake in California. The mountain can be seen from most places in the county and offers breathtaking views from the top. At the peak of the mountain is a 1520-acre park. Mount Konocti County Park is the county’s largest park that offers gorgeous sights and many miles of hiking trails for you to explore.

Watch Some Feathered Friends

The diverse landscape in Lake County is the ideal habitat for a wide selection of bird species. It is one of the best bird-watching destinations in the country. Some of the birds that migrate through the area include sparrows, blackbirds, shorebirds, bluebirds, woodpeckers, and more. If you want a closer look at the feathered friends, you can try the Eye of the Wild guided boat tour. The family-friendly tours offer an excellent opportunity to take pictures of exotic birds and other wildlife.

A Walk in the Park

Located just on the shores of the lake is Clearlake State Park.  It is one of the best parks in the country for various water recreation, such as swimming, boating, water-skiing, and fishing. Large-mouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill, and crappie are just some of the fish you can reel in. If you like camping, the park also offers 149 campsites throughout four campgrounds with clean bathrooms, shower facilities, and picnic tables.

Wine and Olive Oil Tasting

If you enjoy wine and olive oil, here’s your chance to try some award-winning wines and extra virgin olive oils. Chacewater Winery and Oil Mill offers outdoor tastings daily. The winery is known for its many accolades of wine varietals and olive oils, including a 2012 Golden State Winery of the Year award at the California State Fair Wine Competition.

There is no timeline of when we can resume our everyday lives. But as long as we mask up, practice social distancing, and keep a positive attitude, we will all get through this pandemic together.
