Eureka Woman Injured After Utility Pole Collision

An 89-year-old Eureka woman was seriously injured during a car accident that took place on Monday, December 9, 2019. According to the Eureka Police Department (EPD) officers, the collision happened during the early evening and involved only one vehicle. The injured woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment. However, updates on her condition have not been reported. An investigation into the collision is ongoing.

Crash Information

The accident happened just after 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of 14th and G Streets between Hammond Park and the Christ Episcopal Church in northern Eureka. EPD indicated that she had been driving on 14th when her vehicle entered a curve in the road. For unknown reasons, the vehicle did not turn as it entered the curve and traveled offroad, continuing a short distance before striking a utility pole head-on.

Accident witnesses contacted police who dispatched emergency response officials to the location immediately. When an ambulance arrived on-scene, the woman was in her vehicle and sustained injuries to her chest.

Investigation

As EPD continues to look into what may have caused this collision, officers have stated that they do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved. Single-vehicle accidents can be caused by a variety of different factors, many of which are outside of the control of the drivers involved in the crash. Such factors include lack of proper roadway signage, defective vehicle parts like tires or steering systems, obstacles in the road, and more.

Chest Injuries

Injuries affecting the chest can be very serious. After head and spine injuries, chest trauma is the third most common fatal injury type in the U.S. Those who suffer blunt force trauma to their chests are liable to sustain a variety of injuries including rib fractures, pulmonary contusions, and even sepsis caused by a ruptured esophagus. In many cases, the symptoms of a chest injury can be painful and difficult to recover from.

It’s important for people who’ve suffered chest trauma to seek medical attention right away. Even injuries that don’t seem serious can gradually worsen over time if left untreated.

Calling an Attorney

If you were hurt in a car accident, it’s likely that you will face a difficult road to recovery. Not only do crash survivors often need extensive medical procedures and physical therapy, but the financial effects of an accident injury can be dramatic. Being injured can mean no longer being able to work or, in other cases, needing to hire somebody to help you around the home. On top of medical bills, these issues often leave people wondering how they will be able to get by. For this reason, it’s important to reach out to a local attorney who has experience helping people who’ve been injured in car accidents. An attorney will be able to listen to the details of your situation and help you figure out how you can claim payments for your damages so that you can regain your health and financial stability.
