Eureka Crash Blocks Traffic

I’m Ed Smith, a Eureka personal injury lawyer. On Tuesday, May 23, 2017, a collision involving three vehicles caused major vehicle damage and blocked traffic on a main road in Eureka for about an hour while fire department crews worked to clear wreckage from the roadway.

Accident Details

The accident occurred at about 10:15 a.m. on Broadway Street at the intersection of West Hawthorne near the Eureka Chamber of Commerce and Serenity Inn.

According to witnesses of the incident, a group of people had been at the corner of the intersection and it looked as if they were preparing to cross Broadway Street. A silver Toyota Corolla reportedly made an abrupt stop in order to avoid a pedestrian. Because of the abrupt stop, a chain reaction of rear-ending occurred. The Corolla was rear-ended by a red Mazda 3, which was rear-ended in turn by a green Toyota Camry.

Damages and Injuries

Thankfully, none of the pedestrians or occupants of the vehicles sustained any serious injuries. Photos from the crash show major damages to the front end of the Camry, which required the use of a tow truck to be removed from the roadway. Serious damages to the rear and front ends of the Mazda as well as the rear end of the Corolla were also reported by witnesses.

Eureka Car Accidents

While this accident did not result in any serious harm, Eureka has seen a few more serious collisions in the past year.

One such incident occurred last September when a single car collision caused the death of a Eureka man. The accident occurred late at night and California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers found the driver of the vehicle had been ejected during the collision. The man was transported to the St. Joseph Hospital where he was given emergency medical treatment. However, he eventually succumbed to his injuries. CHP reported that they suspected the deceased man to have been driving under the influence of alcohol.

Another incident which occurred more recently was a March 13, 2017, an accident that left the 45-year-old male driver of a vehicle with fatal injuries. The crash reportedly occurred when the man drove into a guardrail on Highway 101. The impact of the collision killed the driver and left his 46-year-old female passenger with serious injuries. The passenger was taken to a hospital and recovered. CHP reported that they also believed this crash to have been caused by the use of alcohol.
