Calvine Road Intersection Accident Results in Injury

A rollover accident in Elk Grove on April 28 sent one person to the hospital. The collision occurred between two Hondas around 10:50 a.m. at the intersection of Calvine and Short Roads. One of the Hondas had experienced a rollover and was found by California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers on its roof.

Cause of Rollover Accident Being Determined

One patient was transported to Kaiser South Sacramento Medical Center with injuries. An investigation by CHP Traffic will determine how the accident happened and assign fault.

The Dangers of Injuries in a Rollover

In rollovers, the potential for serious injuries is high due to the nature of the crash. The risk of these injuries increases if a person isn’t wearing a seatbelt or other restraints when the vehicle rolls over because it can cause ejection from the vehicle. Injuries caused by flying debris inside the vehicle are also possible in a rollover accident. Without proper protection, occupants may suffer head trauma or be crushed by parts of the car. To reduce their chances of sustaining such severe injuries, all passengers should wear seat belts at all times while traveling in an automobile.

Rollover Roof Crush

Roof crushes can cause traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, broken bones, lacerations, and even death. Although all auto manufacturers must build their vehicles to provide enough roof and side support strength that they will not collapse in a rollover, not all of them do. Unfortunately, roof crush also reduces the survivability space for those inside.

In addition to physical damage inflicted on occupants during a rollover accident, vehicles may also be damaged beyond repair. Rollover crashes can cause fuel spills, fires and other hazardous conditions, leading to further injury or death. When roof crush occurs, retaining the vehicle is vital, so it can be examined by engineers. If it is found to have contributed or caused the injuries or deaths, the manufacturer may be held liable through an auto product liability claim.

Roadway Negligence in a Rollover Accident

Another problem that can cause or contribute to a rollover accident is roadway negligence. Negligence can include anything that affects a driver’s ability to be safe such as potholes, malfunctioning traffic lights, poor overhead lighting, blocked views caused by overgrown foliage and others. By having an injury lawyer’s investigators examine the intersection, it may be determined that government negligence was involved.

A claim may be placed against the government entity in charge of the design and maintenance in the area. The time limit to file a claim against a government entity is much shorter than for other personal injury claims – six months. For this reason, getting the assistance of an accident attorney can be a good idea. This ensures that all the paperwork is completed correctly and filed on time. Otherwise, the court will refuse to hear the case.
